Into the Wilderness CHAT

- If anyone wants to chat Into the Wilderness, I'll be in the MOP chat room early tonight at 8:45.

I want to discuss the following:

- Why am I seeing on Amazon that Into the Wilderness is a "sequel to The Last of the Mohicans"??

- The first time Lizzie visited the mountain, it took like 2+ hours.  Now they come and go every five seconds like it's nothing.  Whassup?  Did she get faster?  Are those Magic Moccasins?

- Hannah was a twin, right?  Didn't Sarah die giving birth to her and the twin (who died at birth)?  If so - why did Hanna say she remembered her mother?  Hannah is five and the mother died five years ago.  I can add.  I swear.

- Why did Lizzie flip NOT flip when she found out about the mine?  "Oooh I'd really like to give Nate a hard time...but just THINK of the rings and table service!"

  1. That's funny about how long it takes them to get up the mountain - I was just thinking about that yesterday! It reminded me of one of the OL books (Echo? or was it one of the LJ stories?) where people are heading back and forth from America to England like it's nothing at all. lol

I'm not sure if I'll be able to chat early tonight, but I have to add my two cents on a couple of these:

I know that some of the inspiration (and characters) did come from the Last of the Mohicans book, but when I looked it up on Wikipedia, some of the details didn't mesh. I haven't seen that movie in a long time, so I don't really remember a lot of the details. I'll watch it again when I'm done with the ITW series.

The thing with Sarah confused me for a little bit too, but now I've got it straight. Sarah was pregnant with twins (one of them Hannah), but the boy died. Then she was pregnant again and died after that birth along with the baby. I didn't think that was very well explained either.

OK, now I won't feel so bad if I'm late to chat. ;-)

  2. Remember what I wrote to you earlier, about how bad the writing was - things don't gel. You will come across several things as you read that don't add up right.

  3. I'll chat with you Carol! Afterall you forgot to mention that Elizabeth SHOT Nathaniel!!! And I'm with Cari, the island sexy times was HOT! I loved that island. :)

I think you need to check your math. Cari is right. Hannah is 10 ( I think ). Her twin died at birth and years later her mother died in childbirth with another child. That's how Hannah got to know her mother.

I see what you mean about the walk to Paradise. I thought it was about an hour of traveling time. :) Magic Moccasins, LOL!

  8. Jen J, we really didn't time to chat too much. Mostly about how much we love Nathaniel (or is that just all that I remember?? lol)

  9. OK ladies. I have to ask a question and I'm too embarrassed to blog it.

Have you ever watched Guiding Light? And if so, did you watch in the 80s?

  10. XXX ALERT!!! Be warned.

Oh yeah - that ruled when Elizabeth shot Nathaniel! He didn't care. I loved when he was like "I'm never going to hold this against you" or whatever he said...and she was still unsure of herself. I was like "Come ON, Woman! It was an accident! He knows that! Just give him a knobber and move on!"

Speaking of... why haven't we seen Elizabeth go downtown? I hope I just haven't arrived at the party yet. :)

  11. Carol,
YOU are EMBARRASSED? Ha! Just post your question, silly lady.

As for Downtown, I don't know. Maybe E. doesn't know how to get Downtown? Perhaps Nat should give her directions on how to get there? Downtown can be a scary place if you have never been there before.

Nat on the other hand has NO problem at ALL finding Downtown. NO Problem. He even found it in the cave. He's my hero.

  12. Now let's take Tatiana as an example. There was one chick who was NOT afraid to go downtown. She had no directions, no idea at all of how to get downtown...............but she went anyway. Brave girl. And let's face it, downtown was a much different place in 1940's Russia.

  13. PS I've totes changed my mind on Nat. I had an actor from the 80s in mind but he all the sudden reminded me of a current actor and now I am SOLD. My only problem: seeing him with long hair. I don't even know if he'd do it. But boy he's got the bod...and the face...and the swagger. Yum. Posting time.

  14. Could you imagine if Frank and E. got together? They wouldn't even know that DownTown existed.

Now if Tatiana and Jamie got together..........they'd pretty much never leave DownTown. Nope. They'd have to get a (sound-proof) apartment DownTown.

Is it hot in here? or is it just me?

  15. Ok, I finally found DG's review of ITW:

"My favorite sort of book is the kind you live in rather than read. Into the Wilderness is one of those rare stories that let you breathe the air of another time and leave your footprints on the snow of a wild, strange place. I can think of no better adventure than to explore the wilderness in the company of such engaging and independent lovers as Elizabeth and her Nathaniel."
    Diana Gabaldon

    (so THERE!! Ha, j/k)

  16. Oh my goodness - Carol and Jen J, you are cracking me UP! Two lines that will keep me giggling throughout the day:

"Just give him a knobber and move on!"

"And let's face it, downtown was a much different place in 1940's Russia."

    My tummy hurts from laughing!

OK, so I've wondered about Elizabeth going "downtown" myself. It's possible that she's just never thought of it and Nathaniel is too polite to suggest (not that this stopped Tatiana!) Remember how SHOCKED Elizabeth was in the cave?! Still, it can't take that much independent creative thought....

Carol, I did not watch Guiding Light in the 80s, but don't be embarrassed! If you had said As the World Turns, Days of Our Lives, or Young and the Restless, I'd be all over it. ;-)

So, who is this actor you're talking about???

  17. First of all, Frank knows EXACTLY how to get to Downtown. He just prefers not to travel! Jerk! I don't blame Elizabeth but I'm not convinced she hasn't gone for a visit.

Carol, I wish I had Jennifer J's emails for this book! Hilarious! I have the others though and if you blog, I will find them! Cari's are really fun too! What would I do without you ladies?

I watched Guiding Light for a bit. Who is it? You should post a pic of Julian for Jennifer j since she missed chat. You should also post a picture of Henry Cavill because I love him. That comment is not really related to the book at all. :)

  18. " You should also post a picture of Henry Cavill because I love him."

    LOL

  19. Hildy,
ah, so Frank just enjoyed watching others go DownTown. He never wanted to make the trip? I wonder if he travelled DownTown with any of his young student-hussies? Perhaps we'll find out in Book 8. (why do I waste my time thinking about Frank?)

"You should also post a picture of Henry Cavill because I love him."

Ditto!! Henry is enjoyable. Shall we change your name from Hot-4-Nat to Hot-4-Henry? Decisions, decisions.
